Q: What Should I Look For in My First Zero-Turn Mower?
Now that you’ve decided to choose a zero-turn mower for your lawn care, you need to decide which zero-turn mower is right for you. When making your decision, it’s important to consider the engine you need, your yard size and terrain, and price point.
Engine Size
If you want to get the most from your mower, you need to choose one with a quality engine. The size of your yard and your yard’s terrain is a good indicator of how large your mower’s engine should be. Larger engines are more powerful and run smoother with less vibration.
Yard Size & Terrain
Zero-turn mowers are great for cutting lots of any terrain larger than one acre. You will want to make sure the mower you select has at least 14-16 hp and a wide mowing deck (at least 38 inches). For larger lots, we suggest you purchase a mower with at least 18 hp engines and mowing decks over 44 inches wide.
Price
Typically, residential zero-turn mowers range in price from about $2,500 to just over $6,000. While you can get a quality zero-turn mower at a low price, keep in mind that mowers at higher price points usually come with more features and added durability.
